Keeping athletes hydrated on and off the field

What if sports teams could order Gatorade products effortlessly—without frantic calls, stock-out surprises, or manual order chasing—while unlocking millions in new revenue?

Gatorade powers professional and collegiate athletes nationwide through seasonal allocations, but the old process was a nightmare: outdated software, disconnected systems, poor inventory visibility, and heavy reliance on just two staff to handle everything. The result? Stressed teams, delayed orders, frustrated users, and lost sales opportunities.

I contracted with PepsiCo Ecomm and Gatorade to launch TeamZone: a modern B2B eCommerce platform that streamlines ordering, boosts transparency, and opens new revenue streams.

The Mission

Empower Sports Directors, Dietitians, and Trainers to:

  • Shop and order with clear product availability
  • Track status, substitutions, and shipping in real time
  • Use allocations efficiently without confusion or delays

Core Team:

  • Jon Sorrentino – Design Team Lead, Senior UI/UX Designer
  • Dane Wesolko – Senior UI/UX Designer

The Journey: Insight-Led, Rapid, Impact-Focused

We hit the ground running:

  • Deep user interviews revealing major pain points: lack of order visibility, stock confusion, and workflow frustration
  • Initial component library and wireframes for fast alignment
  • Iterative prototyping in Figma → high-fidelity clickable prototypes in Adobe XD for rapid testing and feedback
  • Strategic pivot to proven eCommerce patterns (inspired by best-in-class examples) while prioritizing order transparency and seamless shopping

Continuous research via Baymard Institute benchmarks shaped future-state recommendations, ensuring long-term excellence.

Key deliverables:

  • Component library for speed and consistency
  • User flows and annotated wireframes
  • High-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes
  • Research deck with industry best practices and improvement roadmap

Cross-team grooming kept us on track—delivering a Minimum Loveable Product (MLP) in just three months.

The Impact

TeamZone transforms how teams access Gatorade:

  • Faster, clearer ordering with real-time inventory and status insights
  • Reduced errors, substitutions handled smoothly, and fewer support calls
  • Higher order volume and fulfillment rates

Internal teams shed manual burdens. Sports staff gain control and peace of mind. Gatorade ships more product, captures previously lost revenue, and strengthens partnerships—all while scaling efficiently.

Decision-makers feel relief from operational chaos, optimism for growth, and pride in delivering a modern platform that directly fuels athlete performance and brand loyalty.
